<image:caption>Iterative Work. Vol 1.1, Juried Exhibition Typeforce 7, 2016 Photo: Tom Tian, Firebelly Volume 1.1 is a site-specific installation for Typeforce that builds on the foundation of Volume 1, nudges the original concept toward new territory, and fulfills the company’s mission of creating iterative work. For Typeforce 7, 1.1 explores the creation of letter forms through the overprinting of black squares in succession. Leaving design decisions to chance creates risk. This project allows me to make time to be in-the-moment, an indulgence I take as often as possible.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Great Ideas of Humanity Mural 1200 North Branch, Goose Island, 2018 Photo: Yaro Banduro From 1950–1975, Chicago-based Container Corporation of America ran a campaign heralded as one of the best in advertising history, Great Ideas of Western Man. The world has changed since 1975, but great ideas are timeless. John Massey, former Container head of design, encouraged the Design Museum of Chicago to reimagine the Great Ideas campaign. We happily obliged. Our reprise, Great Ideas of Humanity, embraces the increasing globalization of our world and celebrates the resulting cross-pollination of ideas, philosophies, societies, and cultures.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Free Is Something to Believe In Gold & Black Vinyl on Glass, 2018–Present 106”×64.5” This site-specific artwork is based on a recent collection of works titled Cutting Room Floor. Tanner composed this image using waste materials from an exhibition at the Design Museum of Chicago. It is based on quotes from 5th- to 8th-graders answering the question: “What is a great idea?” The original artwork was then interpreted into a stunning, reflective, and optimistic artwork.</image:caption>

<image:caption>A Clock For Identity Designers Ink on Paper, Clock Parts, 2008 12” Round Photo: Temple University I wager that without leaving your home you are exposed to hundreds, if not thousands, of brands. That’s before opening the newspaper, checking the feeds, or flipping on the news. Designers, scholars, psychologists and sociologists have been writing about the overexposure of advertisements in our consumption-crazy culture for a decade or longer. One day, the hyper-exposure made me stop, pull out my Moleskine, and begin recording brand-interaction data.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Evergreen, a novel Jacket Design, 2018 6”×9” In this novel by M.L. Kinbote, we discover that even the immortal can have surprisingly normal weaknesses, and sometimes not everything is exactly as it seems. When asked to design the jacket for Evergreen, I jumped at the opportunity. After devouring the book, I proceeded to stretch, cut, and fold the letters that make up its rigidly precise title, to celebrate the balance of order and chaos demonstrated within its pages.</image:caption>

<image:caption>This Is All Too Fragile, solo exhibition The Fields Chicago, 2019 Photo: Jeni Moore, JLL This body of work represents a tension I am confronted with daily, weighing the simple appeal of convenience against its systemic impact on my daughter’s future on this planet. This idea, alongside the many nuanced challenges it unearths, are represented through bold typographic statements that put the overarching concept front and center. This is further punctuated through a series made with repurposed materials, which paints a picture not just of a mandate for change, but an entirely new way of living. Of not just reusing and recycling, but adding meaning and value to waste materials. It’s time to change everything.</image:caption>
